Almost done

This Year's Tour

With all the talk about who's the top sports star of our age -- Tiger Woods or Roger Federer -- I cannot help thinking that if Lance Armstrong ends up on the podium in Paris, he doesn't even need to win the Tour, he moves to the top of the list.

The Great Gatsby

Enjoyed the report about The Great Gatsby on Studio 360 this afternoon.
Interestingly, I was struck by how pedestrian Fitzgerald's prose sometimes was in the early drafts. Some of my students at Johns Hopkins loathe revision/rewriting. But often that's where the real magic is found. Read More

I've finished with the working draft for High Heat: The Search for the Fastest Pitcher of All Time. The publisher is Da Capo Press. Nolan Ryan, Bob Feller, Steve Dalkowski, Satchel Paige, Walter Johnson and Sandy Koufax are in the elite group, with such contemporary stars as Joel Zumaya, Billy Wagner (before his Tommy John surgery) and Tim Lincecum also in contention.
